Titel:Most dangerous women
Auteur: Anne Wiltsher
Samenvatting: It is perhaps suprising to learn that the women of Greenham are not the first women to have dedicated their lives to peace. Half the leading women of the British suffrage movement opposed the First World War. Working through the international women's suffrage movements, they linked up with other feminists in Europe and America and tried to push the men in power towards a negotiated peace. In April 1915, 2,000 women met in Holland, conceived an original plan to end the war and sent envoys to lobby governments accordingly. The rest of the delegates went home and by the end of that year there were active women's peace groups in eleven European countries as well as America. Anna Wiltsher describes the extraordinary exploits of these women in MOST DANGEROUS WOMEN, wich onravels their fascinating story. She describes their determination to cross international borders despite wartime travel restrictions, their encounters with leading statesmen, their vilification by the Press and the general public, their philosophies and friendships.
