Titel:The Medical Effects of Nuclear War
Auteur:
Samenvatting: A majorr issue in the continuing nuclear debate is the accuracy of statements concerning the scale of injuries which would result from a nuclear attack on Britain. While options have differed widely, those best qualified to comment on this particular issue have, until now, remained silent. This situation is remedied with this publication, which is acknowledged as an objective and dispassionate appraisal. It does not take sides in the disarmament debate, because it wants its conclusions to be seen as scientific and free from bias, allowing people to draw their own conclusions. The conclusion reached by the report, however, is clear: 'The NHS could not deal with the casualties that might be expected following the detonation of a single one megaton over the UK. It follows that multiple nuclear explosions over serveral, possibly many, cities would force a breakdown in medical services across the country as a whole. We believe that such a weight of nuclear attack would cause the medical services in the country to collapse'.
