Auteur: |   |
Samenvatting: | NUCLEAR WAR: THE AFTERMATH describes the disastrous consequences of a nuclear war in which the industrialized societies of the Northern Hemisphere are totally destroyed and hundreds of millions of people die either directly or from the delayed effects of radiation; or as a result of the collapse of their societies and the international exchange of food, fertilizers, fuel and economic aid.
The senario on which the book is based is not one which would result in the maximum number of human casualties in the short term. However, by emphasizing the environmental aspects of the aftermath of a nuclear war, it is shown that many more people are ultimately affected by overwhelming environmental consequences than are directly killed by bombing and radiation.
The authors of this book, all of whom are the foremost international experts in their fields, have written their contributions in the hope that scientific appraisal of the human and ecological consequences of a nuclear war may help to deter such a catastrophe.   |
